Come to understand what suffering is. Suffering is resistance to this present moment. Pain in life is a guaranteed experience. Suffering is an optional experience.
It is never the experience itself that makes you suffer. It is believing the thoughts about the experience that makes you suffer.
Just be a simple witness. Silently observe the thoughts in the mind and the emotions in the body. Don’t judge them. Don’t comment, “this is a good feeling, bad feeling, I don’t like this feeling, etc”. That is the mind coming in again as a commentator. Just silently observe. You are not the mind and you are not the body. You are simply awareness, the silent witness.
Find this witness. Sit quietly and observe the thoughts as they arise and pass. All thoughts are based in time. They will be about the past or the future. If they are judgements on the present moment, they are based on past experiences. Time is an illusion. No thought is true. No thought is true.
Suffering is when you believe your thoughts. When you stop believing them, and simply observe them, thoughts begin to lose their grip on you. Suffering begins to lose its momentum and peace begins to come from within.
Don’t question your suffering. It seems that for you, this is creating more suffering. Also, drop this notion of trying. Any trying at all is trying too hard. Don’t try. Trying is a bad word. Just be a simple witness.
