"Your skin taste like Brussel sprouts I swear"
I’m a 25 year old mom, Mommy, mother of this piece of joy.
Lately, I feel people don’t understand the meaning and reason behind hip hop. I’m sure if I was brought up in this generation, I would think Lil Wayne and Chief Keef were the realest rappers alive because that would be all I knew. Hip hop was started to send a message to the people and bring awareness to the world of what is going on in the black community all while having a good time. Hip hop begin to unite us as one and enlighten those of our true history. Yes, battles were involved as friendly competition. Many mainstream rappers aren’t hip hop, they’re hustlers. Hustlers are people who “employs fraudulent or unscrupulous methods to obtain money” (Dictionary.com).
In other words, rappers in the industry today just want to get rich and they’ll say and do whatever to get there. They see what attracts people, what will get them paid, and instead of speaking on what’s right they invoke the ignorant. There is severe black on black crime everyday. Let’s talk about how we can put an end to that in the hip hop community. My favorite Tribe Called Quest record is “Excursions”.
“Back in the days when I was a teenager
Before I had status and before I had a pager
You could find the abstract listening to hip hop
My pops used to say, it reminded him of be-bop
I said, well daddy don’t you know that things go in cycles
The way that Bobby Brown is just ampin like Michael
It’s all expected, things for the lookin
If you got money, Quest is for the bookin
Come on everybody, let’s get with the fly modes
Still got room on the truck, load the back boom
Listen to the rhyme, to get a mental picture
Of this black man, through black woman victim
Why do I say that, cause I gotta speak the truth man
Doing what we feel for the music is the proof and”
Not only does it tell a story, but Q-tip didn’t say one curse word through this entire track except Ass.
Putting a few words together that rhyme isn’t lyrical or poetic. Hip hop isn’t dead, it’s just lost. Help spread the awareness.
America is broke
Sorry but in order to protect america and its people, we need to stay out of Iran and Iraq. America is going to go broke trying to save other people and restore their country. We need restoring right here in the USA. Trust me, I have the deepest empathy for these people but if we continue on this route of taxing the poor in order to restore another country, we’ll become a third world.
I am Brown American
I don’t care what anyone of non brown skin says. You will never know or understand the life of someone with brown skin because everyday you look on the mirror, your skin will always be pale. I have to look in the mirror and know I have brown skin and have to walk out of my house with automatic guard up because of my color. You look in the mirror and think to yourself, “I wonder what I’ll eat for lunch”. I look in the mirror and wonder how I need to style my hair for the day so no one gets offended, figure out a way to do my job to my best knowing I’m getting paid much less than the person next to me, preparing myself for my “kill them with kindness attitude”. You will never know the extent of what us brown skin people go through, because although we have to work twice as hard to get just to where you are, you never see the struggle and hurt behind it. You think, this is just the way we are when I’m fact this is the way you are. We are perfectly, hardworking, intellectual, and strong willed individuals. But what you see, is someone with a lot of tolerance.
